How’s your desk look?

Come on, be honest.

If you are like most people, a cluttered desk will keep you disorganized in your business. (The only exception I know to this is my husband, who’s desk is literally jam-packed with stuff! See this photo of his desk? I don’t know how he accomplishes ANYTHING!)

For me, if my space is too busy and full of stuff, my mind gets cluttered too!

And if you didn’t know, today is National Clean Off Your Desk Day. Celebrated the second Monday in January, it’s your opportunity (yes, even you, my dear husband) to organize their space in preparation for the new year of work that lies ahead.

Still not inspired to clean off your desk? Here’s a few statistics that may get your mojo working:

  • 85 Percent of workers who believe that a clean desk says that “someone is on top of things.”
  • 40 Percent of workers who admit to “frequently” losing paperwork because of their messy desks
  • Almost 21,000 — Number of bacteria per square inch on the typical worker’s desk.
  • More than 25,000 — Number of bacteria per square inch on the typical worker’s phone.
  • Workers lose the equivalent of almost a week of work a year looking for files, online documents, staplers and other materials.

    LOL!! OK my desk is a royal mess today. Almost as bad as your husband’s. LOL!!

    Normally I give it a clean sweep on Fridays but the last few Fridays… well… let’s just say it wasn’t a priority. But you’ve inspired me to clean up – and de-cluttering surely does make you feel a whole lot better mentally as well.

      Love it Allison! I’ve done your method, except instead of a bin, I just sweep in onto the floor and sit down and sort through it that way. I haven’t used the timer though – maybe that’s why I don’t do this enough – like you mentioned, I start reading and get lost in the piles! LOL!
      Going to do mine today! It’s been far too long I’m afraid! Timer is ready to go.

    Happy Monday Shannon!

    I cleaned my desk this past weekend. I too cannot work when surrounded by clutter.

    Your bacteria facts made me want to go buy a can of lysol to spray all over me and my desk.

    Your posts inspire me. Even though I have the holiday calendars printed I never seem to be as on top of them as you. Thanks for inspiring and reminding me to keep blogging and when I can’t think of what to write to piggy back off a holiday.

    I jumped the gun on this and did my entire office this weekend. I should have taken pictures because it was a disaster but now everything is in order. I love it.
